An exerpt from a scroll of a time long forgotten

. . .The true dragons came into existence shortly after the world was formed. They dominated the early world with unparalled and transcendent strength. Absolute in their power and few in number, the true dragons shaped the world to their whims.
Among the original brood stood tall a black dragon with particular tastes. He who consumes mountains. He who swallows the seas. He who is insatiable. He who is the Gourmet Dragon.
A fanatic in the truest sense of the word, the dragon with the title of Gourmet would consume anything in its path. However, it has recently taken fancy to a Hyur Chef with the surname Hilgram. With a new interest in mortal cuisine, the dragon, now referred to as Raiders, cursed the Hilgram line to eternal servitude.
Now with every hundred years that pass, Raiders descends on Eorzea and commences the Gourmet Cycle. . .

A diary entry from a descendent of the Hilgram line

Year 2 of the 7th Umbral Era

Today marks the 100th year since the last cycle. Passed within my family is the legend of a gourmet, one so great that we spend generations preparing for its arrival. The last to tend to it was my great grandfather, who assisted it for a fornight only to be consumed in the end for a slight remark. I pray that I not meet the same fate.

The Gourmet Dragon Raiders should arrive in Ul'Dah within the next week and I am to greet it. I am in the process of preparing a banquet with the hopes that the Gourmet finds it a pleasant breakfast. I have compiled a list of the finest cuisines in Eorzea for this Gourmet Cycle yet I fear it may not be enough to satisfy its hunger.

Surely no fate is worse than what awaits me. 12 be with me.

-Noel Hilgram
